Negative Air Machines
Our negative air machines range in power from 600 cubic feet per minute to 4,000 cubic feet (CFM) per minute.
A negative air machine is just an air scrubber with a hose attaced to the clean air exhaust. Clean air is pumped out of the containment area. Air pressure inside the work area / containment area is lower than the outside . This prevents containminated air from flowing out of the work area. Clean air can flow in.
You will need hoses and clamps with your air scrubber. Hoses and other accessories are available on the product pages. Your unit usually ships within 24 hours from Abatement Technolgies in Suwanee, Georgia.

A negative air machine is a device which cleans contaminated air and pumps clean air from one workspace into another. This lowers air pressure (creates Negative Air) in the workspace preventing contaminated air from flowing out into other areas. As an example, consider dry wall sanding or mold remediation. First, drop sheets might be set up to define and contain a work area. A negative air machine would be operated while the mold remediation or drywall sanding was being done. The negative air machine would remove drywall dust and mold spores from the air. The negative air machine would exhaust clean air through its air duct or hose outside of the workspace. Air pressure would be lower in the workspace than the outside area. Contaminated air would be prevented from flowing out. |
|
Negative air machines are typically air scrubbers with a hose attached to the clean air exhaust. A negative air machine usually comes with one of three filter types. A HEPA filer removes particles as small as .3 microns in size with 99.97% efficiency. This would be the most common filter. Bag filters are available on some units. Instead of a HEPA filter a bag filter may be emptied and used many times. This eliminates the expense of replacing HEPA filters. Bag filters may be used for very coarse dust such as concrete dust or drywall dust. A negative air machine may also have an activated carbon filter to capture airborne chemicals. Some negative air machines will have both a HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter. Negative air machines come in a variety of sizes. |

The implementation of effective negative pressure containment procedures is critical for isolating particles, bacteria and fungal spores released into the air during facility construction, renovation and maintenance activities. Sensitive patients can be protected in an effective and economical manner by implementing three time-proven negative pressure containment and isolation techniques:
Establishing a physical containment zone, by enclosing the area in which the contaminants are generated, and sealing off any HVAC exhaust ducts in that area. This is most commonly accomplished by use of prefabricated fixed or portable containment modules that consist of a frame and polyethylene sheeting, or by fabricating a barrier.
Placing a sufficient number of HEPA filtration devices (HFD) within the contained area to continuously filter particles and contaminants out of the air. Most experts recommend a minimum of between six to 12 air changes per hour (ACH).
Exhausting HEPA filtered air from the containment area at a rate sufficient to create and continuously maintain negative (lower) air pressure within that area relative to adjacent spaces. Negative pressure ensures that any air that leaks through the physical barrier between the areas will be “clean” air flowing into containment, as opposed to “dirty” air flowing out.|
